Recently, a Florida school board settled a lawsuit with three families whose children died in 2011. The infraction? The school principal practiced hypnosis on them prior to two committing suicide and one dying in a car crash.
Without a doubt, this is a sad, tragic event. Unfortunately, both the school board and the media are getting it wrong. The hypnosis sessions did not kill those children. Everyone wants to heal, but timing can be important. As a hypnotherapist and success coach, people often ask me when they should schedule sessions. Or, sometimes they feel a particular time is too stressful. In reality, any time is a good time. In fact, the more stressful, the better! If you’re taxed, it makes it harder to suppress self-sabotages and easier to heal them. In fact, if you’re not relaxed, that’s the stuff we’re working on.

Recently a lady in California began using hypnosis to become a “brainless” Barbie. (Video)
Although her approach is extreme, is it wrong that she wants to look like Barbie? Not necessarily. We all desire beauty, but being “brainless” is cause for concern. It’s possible this lady has “body dysmorphia” which is an excessive misperception and dislike of some aspect of the body.
For me, if a client had this request, I would explore motives and share the downside of such a choice (i.e. potential harm and a fragile Barbie business).
